Welcome to Lausanne!
Located in the heart of Europe, Switzerland offers a great variety of landscapes and cultures. From the Alpine massif to the verdant plains, our country will charm you with its diversity. Our four national languages reflect the four cultural regions. For all those who wish to pursue quality studies in a breath-taking setting and a culturally rich environment, Switzerland is an ideal destination.
Lausanne is the fifth city of Switzerland, the capital city of the "Canton de Vaud" and the “chef-lieu” of the district of Lausanne. Lausanne is the centre of an agglomeration of around 300'000 inhabitants. It is an important city for culture, sport, the economy and education as well as being a hub for public transport with Western Switzerland. In addition, Lausanne is the official Olympic Capital and home to the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee.
The University of Lausanne
Originally founded as the Académie in 1537, the University of Lausanne (UNIL) is a modern institution that, along with neighboring Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), forms a focal point for higher education and leading research, at not only a local level, but also at a national and international level.
With seven faculties (Theology and Religious Studies, Law and Criminal Justice, Arts, Social and Political Sciences, Business and Economics, Geosciences and Environment, Biology and Medicine), the University of Lausanne is a well-rounded university. It is attended more than 14’000 students and 3'000 researchers. At the University of Lausanne, student-professor interactions as well as interdisciplinary are encouraged.
