The EDI (Equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion) commission of the FBM is organizing a leadership training course, for the third time running, in collaboration with HFP consulting (specialists in leadership training for scientists) that will take place in person in August 2023 (August 23rd to 25th and August 28th to 30th) in person at the Biopôle, Epalinges.
The courses are open to all principal investigators of the FBM that are responsible for research groups and also to clinicians that have a PAST-PTC title. Other research clinicans will be considered on a case by case basis.
Two courses will be offered:
1) Leadership essentials, August 23rd, 24th and 25th:tailored to junior group leaders of the FBM (such as Ambizione, FNS/ERC starting grant (Prima,Eccellenza) Cloetta, Privat-docent, PAST, PAST-PTC, or junior MER). This course is for aspiring and new leaders who want to explore key competencies and skills to lead effectively and manage a high performing team with a culture of inclusiveness.
2) Leadership for leaders, August 28th, 29th and 30th: targeted to senior MER, PAS, or PO of the FBM. This course challenges experienced leaders to evolve their leadership style and improve their effectiveness in leading individuals, teams, and institutes in an inclusive environment. This course is especially recommended for Professors taking further leadership positions, for example, as head of a department, school, or in large collaborative networks.
Principal investigators are promoted to new positions which involve increasing responsibilities during their careers, but often without the tools to help them become successful and responsible team managers and institutional leaders. The EDI commission, with support from the Equal opportunity office at UNIL, aims to establish and nurture a strong culture of team and faculty management which are both efficient and respectful of people and values. We propose a leadership training to implement this aim and form a network of PIs who will serve as change leaders in our faculty and beyond.
The topics covered during the leadership courses include:
Active listening; Emotional intelligence; Non-hierarchial communication; time management; diversity in the recruitment process; mitigating unconscious bias; understanding group dynamics; elevating gender equality; adressing conflicts effectively;institutional strengths to build on and leading by example by incorporating diversity, equality and inclusion.
A detailed programme for each course will be available shortly.
Certificates: A certificate of participation will be issued at the end of the course for those that have attended all sessions
No show/late cancellation fee: Note that the courses are offered for free, however, a fee of 1000 CHF will be charged in the case of no show/late cancellation without justified reason (example due to illness). This fee is the equivalent to the cost per participant for the training. Cancellations made up to two weeks before the course starts are free of charge.
Registration: Registration is now OPEN
Deadline for registration: Friday July 14th. There will be a maximum of 16 participants per course. If there is a waiting list the applications will be prioritized in terms of academic profiles and not on a first come first serve policy.
